Glencanisp Lodge 2013

This year we spent time mountain river fishing above the Kirkaig falls on the river Kirkaig in the numerous pools that lie between Loch Fionn and the head of the falls. This very exciting stealth fishing requires up stream casting. Unseen fish will then dart up from nowhere to take the fly back down to the depths of the pool.

Fishing the many small Lochans at the base of Suilven was also very productive; the killer flies were Bibio, Blue Zulu and Peter Ross on size 14s & 16s. A few took on the sea trout and were rewarded with hard fighting fish. Great fun from the rod tube!!

The trophies for the fastest and biggest caught salmon went to V Bullard who had never caught or fished for salmon, and the trophy for the biggest trout went to R Alego. Their names have been engraved on the trophies in readiness for this year’s competition.

We all enjoyed fantastic food from Jules the new lodge cook who’s calibre of cooking is clear from the photos.

To meet demand this year we are organising two trips due to most of last year’s clients re-booking. There are also 12 newcomers this year so it’s shaping up to be an exciting couple of weeks. A number of last year’s clients who experienced salmon fishing for the first time and hooked their first salmon have booked more salmon fishing this year.

Stewart Yates our resident guide will be on hand again to offer guided stalking for large brown trout as well as fly fishing for Pollock in the kelp from the rocky shoreline. Tight lines to everyone going, see you soon!!
